Curriculum

VIKOGA Kungfu believes in expediting the learning process to cope with the demands of modern day needs. To effectively do that, we have incorporated some of the latest techniques in our teaching methods. We are also constantly monitoring and researching new ways of accelerating the learning process. The syllabus and the proposed duration involved in learning this program reflect this belief. Students will be able to finish the core syllabus of the VIKOGA Program in a much, much shorter time than if they were to follow other outdated, unreasonable and irrelevant traditional methods. Generally, attending classes twice a week, students should be able to finish learning all four VIKOGA Vingtzun (Wing Chun) empty hand forms within a few years but varies from student to students. Since the first three levels are grouped into the first class, it is probable that there are times some students will participate in learning forms belonging to higher levels. This policy of integrating the learning process to skew towards the higher level end is opposite to those usually practised by other schools where advanced students are unnecessarily slowed down by beginners. In our case, the learning push and pull is in favour of all students. Beginners and lower level students will stand to gain by early exposure to more advanced forms. It will also break the monotony of repeating the same thing for an unreasonably length of time. It is also fun and exciting for beginners to try out different things on a regular basis. This cross level learning mode will also encourage the seniors to excel, to be humble and to help the juniors in a friendly and safe manner. This practice will also build a healthy atmosphere of togetherness and actively discourages individual egotism.

Awards & Grades

The VIKOGA Grading system is divided into 8 levels. Awards are given to appropriately graded students in recognition of their achievements.

Curricula

ICAN's open syllabus should take around four and a half years (based on 4 hrs per week) to complete. VIKOGA concentrates more on the striking and kicking of the First Order in VIKOGA Kungfu's Order of Martial Arts Differentiation (reference 'Universal Classification of Martial Arts System' in <VIKOGA> book). Its entire focus, philosophy, strategy, skillware, power training, and health supplementation are geared towards that mastery.

It is possible, and probable for the learner to finish learning the main subjects and attain a reasonable level of competency in skills, within a few short years. VIKOGA Kungfu believes that the VIKOGA Program is one of the most inexpensive, fastest, easiest and enjoyable way for you to gain a complete insight into what Wing Chun is all about in the world today. The nature, structure and cost of this internal arts course of study in self-improvement ensures a high degree of success rate for all participants within reason (See Disclaimer & Warning). It strips away the unnecessary mystique and myth of the internal martial arts and lays down the essential secrets and practices in simple easy to understand user-friendly terms. You will find the material covered is very practical and relevant to real-life situations. The subjects covered in this program include the philosophical foundation of personal combat (conflict resolution), standard generic operational tactics, simple and effective deployment strategy, coordination, basic bread-and-butter proven techniques and applications, fundamental technical combinations, elementary power training and related health and fitness supplements and suggestions. VIKOGA Kungfu's open classes for VIKOGA Vingtzun are generally categorised into 2 major groupings - the First Class & the Senior Class. The First Class can simultaneously accomodate the first 3 Levels of students in a friendly classroom learning situation. The Senior Class takes in the Levels 4 & 5 students. This differentiation in grouping is consistent with the Overall System Architecture (OSA) of the VIKOGA Program. The First Class Levels focus on the building blocks of the system. Notes on higher levels.

The preceding levels prepare you for truly advanced training. These levels should adequately equip the practitioner to reach a credible and competent level of martial arts expertise. They also lay a very strong foundation in internal cultivation for the practitioner. This broad and versatile approach emphasises maximum individual success rather than conformity and restriction to any particular school of thought and practice. This approach fast tracks the learning of martial arts for all busy people with little spare time, energy and resources. Eager enthusiasts will be able to pick up more advanced learnings much more comfortably and conveniently. This will save enthusiasts and all practitioners time, energy and money.

Levels 6 & 7 are restricted to strictly private arrangements as the lessons include working out with the Wooden Dummy and the Long Pole which are the core syllabus for these levels. Both the Wooden Dummy and the Long Pole are kept on private premises. The Wooden Dummy requires individual tuition as taught exactly the way it was first transmitted in HongKong by the late Super Master Yip Man. According to anecdotes about the Grandmaster, Yip kept his Dummy in the kitchen and would only teach in private on a one to one basis students who were specially selected to learn it. The door to the kitchen was usually closed when these teachings took place.

The original Long Pole was at least 13 feet long and was used on the red opera junks where the pole was first introduced into the Wing-Chun system. The lack of space in HongKong meant that the Pole as most Wing-Chun practitioners are familiar with, is usually only around 9 feet long. Some practitioners overseas also use shorter poles to transmit the Pole form which further dilutes the original basis of this weapon training. Level 6 & 7 also include the complete transmission of the VIKOGA's unique inner Energetics and advanced trauma endurance training concepts, among others.
