Tassie Trip - April 2003

In April 2003 Shane and Michelle spent almost 2 weeks on the Apple Isle. After leaving Copernicus at Hanrob they drove to Melbourne and boarded the Ferry to Tasmania.

Much was seen and done, but here is a summary of their travels:

1. Sydney to Yass - 1 night in Yass
2. Melbourne - Spirit of Tasmanian I - 1 night
3. Arrive Devonport - Ulverston - 1 night
4. Stanley - 1 night
5. Queenstown - 2 nights
6. Hobart - 3 nights
7. Bicheno - 1 night
8. Launceston - 3 nights
9. Depart Devonport - Spirit of Tasmanian II - 1 night
10. Melbourne to Sydney

Around 5000 kilometres for the whole trip - almost 1000 kilometres each way Sydney to Melbourne and about 3000 kilometres touring around Tasmania. The Ferries are "roll on / roll off" and can carry 300 cars and about 800 passengers.

Highlights

1. The rocking and rolling swell during the crossing of Bass Strait on SOT I.
2. The Nut - Stanley.
3. Cradle Mountain & Dove Lake in the World Heritage Area.
4. The Wilderness Railway - Queenstown to Strahan.
5. Helicopter flight down the King River Gorge - Strahan.
6. Port Arthur - Tasman Peninsula
7. Richmond Bridge - Richmond (Not to mention the pie and latté at the Richmond Bakery)
8. Spotlighting Penguins - Bicheno
9. Natureworld - Bicheno
10. The Macacques - City Park Monkey Enclosure - Launceston
11. Edwardian B&B - Launceston

Michelle made many photographs... many many transparencies (slides) in fact. However they're yet to be scanned. Never fear, as soon as some of the best are scanned they will be displayed here.

If you have a spare 10 days or so why not spend them in beautiful Tasmania. Good food, wine, beer, scenery, wild life and people. What more could you want? Of course this was before the Regina from Big Brother hysteria...
